Located at the Highway 275 and West Dodge Road intersection is a beautiful community known as West Shores. Since its inception in 2001, it has been a rapidly developing lakeshore site for many reasons:  its easy access to employment, shopping and entertainment in Omaha on the West Dodge Expressway; the 203 acre well-managed  lake;  the 242 lakeside lots with sandy, swimming  beaches;  its community spirit, and its lovely homes of many styles and designs.

Other amenities found in the community are a children’s park, a walking trail, a marina where fuel can be purchased, and an island recreational area which can be accessed only by boat.  The West Shores Lake and Home Owners Association, Inc. sponsors a Neighborhood Watch and seasonal events such as a magnificent Christmas lights display and a 4th of July bicycle parade, boat parade, and fireworks display.  Cove captains provide help in monitoring boat safety and the enforcement of the rules for lake use.  Only boats owned and registered by West Shores‘  homeowners are allowed on the lake.

Association covenants and home building specifications are carefully enforced for protection of the lake and home owners who build on its shores.  Today home prices range from $600,000 to $900,000, with vacant lots selling for $170,000 to $230,000.  Public education is provided by the newly unified West Douglas County School District.  Parochial schools and churches of many denominations are found in nearby communities as are libraries, a YMCA, restaurants, and an active community theater.
